Our next Senior Planet tech skills class is June 12 from 9:45-12:15 and will focus on Cloud Storage with a workshop about Using Google Drive. To register for the class, please use this online form. We are limited to 10 per class, so please only register if you are very certain you can attend.
Remember back in the day when you shared photos with friends using a USB/Flash/Thumb drive? Remember floppy discs? How about hard drives? These days some computers don’t even have a real hard drive. Everything except the most essential data to get the device connected to “the cloud” is kept in the cloud.
In first hour, we’ll learn the basics of cloud storage, a technology that lets you store documents, images, and other media files remotely while giving you greater accessibility, reliability, and protection for your important data. We’ll discuss what it is, why it’s the future of data storage, and demonstrate a few of the most popular services currently available to consumers.
All you need to have your own cloud is a Gmail address! In the second hour we’ll have a hands-on workshop using Google Drive. With Drive, you can store many types of files and access them from any device with an internet connection. You’ll create and upload folders to Drive, organize your files within folders and share files with other users. Bring your laptop, smartphone or borrow one of our Windows 11 laptops.
You can register for the class using this online form. We are limited to 10 per class, so please only register if you are very certain you can attend. Class will be held at the RSVP office, 6501 Watts Road, Suite 250, Madison. We will begin at 9:45 with coffee/tea and donuts, and class will start promptly at 10:00. We will finish with a light lunch at 12:15 and a chance to talk more with each other and the Senior Planet Trainers.
Parking is available on the street and in the parking lot behind the building. The RSVP office is on the second floor. Take the elevator to the second floor, then turn right and go to the end of the hallway. You can also take the stairs, then take a left and go to the end of the hallway. You’re welcome to bring your smartphone and laptop to use in the workshop. And we will have Windows laptops you can borrow.
