Have you noticed? Artificial Intelligence, AI, is everywhere these days, for better and for worse. Seeing it with your own eyes, though, may not be enough with deepfakes and cloned voices being used to sell almost everything, and to defraud and scam us out of our life’s savings. Disinformation — information intended to mislead people — has been around as long as people have been around, but today’s AI powered tools and social media have made it easier and faster to create and spread disinformation. In this class, we’ll explore how AI is used to create convincing deepfakes and clone voices, making it challenging to distinguish between real and fake content. We’ll also review best practices for evaluating information and explore tech tools that can help identify content created with AI.
The second half of the class will be a hands-on workshop to practice «chatting» with Google Gemini, and other AI tools, to understand better how easy disinformation (and useful information) is to create. We’ll go over tips for writing effective questions, or «prompts,» as well as how to quickly research a topic, drafting emails and even plan a vacation. Finally, we’ll explore the privacy settings and discuss best practices to ensure you can use the app safely and confidently.

Class will be held at the RSVP office, 6501 Watts Road, Suite 250, Madison. We will begin at 9:45 with coffee/tea and donuts, and class will start promptly at 10:00. We will finish with a light lunch at 12:15 and a chance to talk more with each other and the Senior Planet Trainers.
Parking is available on the street and in the parking lot behind the building. The RSVP office is on the second floor. Take the elevator to the second floor, then turn right and go to the end of the hallway. You can also take the stairs, then take a left and go to the end of the hallway. You’re welcome to bring your smartphone and laptop to use in the workshop. And we will have Windows laptops you can borrow.
