Senior Planet Tech Skills Class April 24: Fraud, Scams and Staying Safe Online

Our next Senior Planet tech skills class is April 24 from 9:45-12:15 and will focus on fraud, scams and staying safe online.

The ability to spot a scam is an essential digital skill. In the first hour, we’ll review some of the most common scams, offer tips for avoiding them, and go over what to do if you do get scammed. We’ll look at sample emails, texts, and deepfakes to see how AI contributes to the increased spread and complexity of scams. We’ll also provide helpful resources for staying informed about the latest scams.

The second hour will be a hands-on workshop reviewing important tips for keeping your personal information safe while enjoying the benefits of the internet. Learn more about how to recognize suspicious emails, tips for safe browsing and best practices for shopping online.

To register for the class, please use this online form. We are limited to 10 per class, so please only register if you are very certain you can attend. Class will be held at the RSVP office, 6501 Watts Road, Suite 250, Madison. We will begin at 9:45 with coffee/tea and donuts, and class will start promptly at 10:00. We will finish with a light lunch at 12:15 and a chance to talk more with each other and the Senior Planet Trainers.

Parking is available on the street and in the parking lot behind the building. The RSVP office is on the second floor. Take the elevator to the second floor, then turn right and go to the end of the hallway. You can also take the stairs, then take a left and go to the end of the hallway. You’re welcome to bring your smartphone and laptop to use in the workshop. And we will have Windows laptops you can borrow.
