Where Volunteers Make a Difference

The RSVP of Dane County Driver Services/Vets Helping Vets Program has received a 2015 Honorable Mention STAR Award from the National Volunteer Transportation Center.  Twenty-eight awards were given out of 157 applications.  The National Volunteer Transportation Center is an initiative of the Community Transportation Association of America.  The STAR Awards recognize outstanding volunteer transportation programs.

"The fact that volunteer driver programs generally provide rides at a low cost to the programs and their passengers, and at the same time can provide assistance needed by people...is why some people refer to them as...'the hope of the future'."  RSVP of Dane County is pleased to receive this award in the 40th Anniversary year of its volunteer driver program.  Nearly 700 RSVP volunteer drivers provide over 8,000 rides and deliver more than 70,000 meals to seniors each year.  More drivers are needed to help older adults remain independent.  Reimbursement at 51 cents per mile and excess insurance coverage are provided.  If you would like more information, please call Gene Kundert, at (608) 441-7896.

Provides Structure to My Days
“Volunteering has put me in touch with people I would not have normally met. Introduced me to others from different cultural backgrounds. Helped provide structure to my days.”
