...where volunteers make a difference

Triad

What is Triad?

AARP, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the National Sheriff's Association signed a cooperative agreement in 1988 to work together to reduce both criminal victimization and unwarranted fear of crime affecting older persons.  It was felt that the three organizations, along with agencies serving seniors, and senior leaders working together could implement ways to reduce crime and promote better law enforcement services to seniors.  The Triad of Dane County was formed in 1995.

How does Triad operate?

In Dane County, RSVP provides coordination for the Dane County Triad and assists communities in forming their own local Triads.  The County Triad meets to plan an annual Crime Prevention and Safety Conference.  The local Triads meet every month or when needed to work on projects or have a speaker and information sharing.

A yearly conference is held with speakers on crime prevention and safety, resource tables and literature.  In the fall of each year, vehicle inspections are held in several communities where seniors can bring their cars in to have them checked for winter driving.

What is the File of Life Project?

The File of Life is an informational packet that lists a person's emergency contacts, medical data, medical conditions, allergies, and medical insurance.  It is placed on the refrigerator where EMT's or police can locate it quickly if there is an emergency.  There is an additional packet that can be carried in a purse or pocket.

For more information on Triad of Dane County, or to request a File of Life, contact Mary, Triad Coordinator, at (608) 441-7897.
